Cardi B dropped her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, just three weeks ago, but she will not be able to promote it as planned due to her pregnancy.
The “Drip” rapper, 25, announced via Instagram on Wednesday, April 25, that she is canceling several scheduled shows to focus on the upcoming birth of her first child with fiancé Offset. The 2018 Broccoli City Festival in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, April 28, will be her last gig until after the baby arrives.
“Shorty keep growing and I be looking like I be moving and everything, but in reality, a bitch barely can breathe,” she said in a video message to her 22.8 million followers.
Cardi (real name Belcalis Almanzar) promised to return to the stage in September, when she will open for Bruno Mars on the next leg of his 24K Magic world tour. (She previously said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she plans to bring the baby with her on tour.)
At the end of the video, the “Bodak Yellow” MC thanked her fans for understanding before adding, “I can barely breathe right now. I ate, like, six chicken wings.”
After months of speculation, Cardi confirmed her pregnancy by revealing her baby bump in a formfitting white dress during her performance of “Be Careful” on Saturday Night Live on April 7. A week later, she hit the stage at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival — and even twerked for the audience.
“The more you move, the easier [the baby] will come out,” she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on April 19. “I was just trying to show the world how I got pregnant in the first place.”
