Yvonne Strahovski plays a woman who can’t conceive in Hulu dystopian series The Handmaid’s Tale. In real life, the 35-year-old and her husband, Tim Loden, are expecting their first child together. (When they announced the pregnancy earlier in May, Chrissy Teigen jokingly tweeted, “Feeling very hurt and lied to right now.”)
Strahovski revealed during a Wednesday, May 30, appearance on Australian show The Panel that she’s been experiencing an unexpected pregnancy side effect.
“This is really gross but I had excessive saliva so I had to carry a spittoon around with me at all times, which is horrendous,” quipped the Australian star, who is due in September. (A spittoon is a receptacle designed for spit!)
The Chuck alum also opened up about hiding her bump while shooting episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale. “My first trimester was episode nine through to the end of The Handmaid’s Tale,” she told The Panel. “That’s why it got tricky. In the end I was just over hiding it so I said, ‘you know what, I’m pregnant.’”
Strahovski revealed she was expecting her first child by Instagramming a photo of herself in a skintight maxi dress on May 11. “I am so very excited to finally be able to share my special news — I’m going to be a Mama!” she wrote. “So very excited to watch & feel this little Peanut growing every day.”
Strahovski and Loden secretly tied the knot during the summer of 2017 after more than six years of dating. The Handmaid’s Tale is based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 book of the same name.
