Nothing like getting ready for your high school prom in the White House! President Obama sat down with Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan for an interview this week, and dished on his daughter Malia‘s first trip to the memorable dance.
“Malia did have her first prom,” the President, 52, said in the chat, which aired on Live! With Kelly and Michael on Friday, May 30.
Ripa, 43, who was seated with the POTUS and Strahan in the Blue Room of the White House, expressed delight at the news and asked for more details. “May we ask, did she go with a boy to the prom?” she inquired.
Ever the protective father, President Obama responded, “I think this is all classified information.”
“But I think it’s fair to say that the first time you see your daughter in heels, [it’s] a little bit jarring,” he continued to the morning show hosts. “She’s lovely, she’s beautiful.”
Malia Obama, 15, is now a sophomore in high school, attending classes at a Washington, D.C. private school. The President’s younger daughter Sasha is a 12-year-old middle school student.
Strahan, 42, imagined what it would be like to be Malia’s date, having to pull up at the White House and walk inside to meet her very powerful father before taking the teen to the prom.
“That’s rough,” President Obama said with a smile. “I’m not too intimidating, I don’t think.”
