He’s ready for diaper duty! Russell Brand took to Instagram on Friday, July 8, to share the exciting news that he and his girlfriend, Laura Gallacher, are expecting their first child together.
Brand, 41, posted a photo of himself holding up a copy of Dean Beaumont’s The Expectant Dad’s Handbook. “Right then. My Mum bought me this,” the Rock of Ages actor captioned the snapshot. “Time to get ready! #trewlit #bookstagram #parenting.”
The parents-to-be have dated on and off since 2007. Following his divorce from ex-wife Katy Perry in July 2012 after nearly two years of marriage, the British-born comedian and Gallacher, 27, a lifestyle blogger, rekindled their romance in 2015.
When he was still wed to Perry, 31, Brand spoke openly about his dream of one day becoming a dad.
“I would like one. I love those little babies in the beginning,” he said during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2011. “They’re so lovely in that bit.”
That same year, the reformed party boy opened up to Redbook about his wish to settle down. “I think I was ready for it. If you’re wild, like a wild animal, marriage won’t contain you,” Brand was quoted in the magazine’s April 2011 issue. “I think that’s how a lot of people get into trouble.”
Many of the funnyman’s followers congratulated him on future fatherhood on Friday.
“Your heart will be richer forever. Enjoy Russell 🙌 ,” one social media user wrote, while another gushed: “Parenthood is the best life changing journey! Congrats!🙌🌹.”
“Congratulations!!!” another excited fan enthused. “I’ve followed you since your very early radio days…..and now here you are about to become a dad, a big change from the man you once were!”
