Full Frontal host Samantha Bee has given up on balancing a successful career and motherhood. “I stopped trying,” the 48-year-old told Us Weekly at TBS’ Women on Top FYC event in New York City on Monday, May 14. “I just accept that sometimes I’m disappointing in various areas of life. Sometimes I win the day, sometimes I lose the day.”
The former Daily Show correspondent and her actor husband, Jason Jones, are parents of Piper, 12, Fletcher, 9, and Ripley, 7. After 16 years of marriage, Bee and Jones, who stars in TBS’ The Detour, squeeze in alone time when they can. “He walked me to work today so that was nice,” Bee told Us. “We gave each other a full download of everything and that was it and then we haven’t seen each other for the rest of the day. But I’ll see him later!”
Back in 2017, Bee joked about her parenting strategy during an appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “They love salty language,” she revealed. “I can get them to do anything by just letting them use one piece of salty language in a conversation. That’s their treat.”
She then gave an example of how it works: “OK, guys, I really need you to clean your rooms. You can do one swear. If you clean your room diligently, we can all sit together, and you can do one high-quality swear.”
Bee created, executive produces and writes Full Frontal, which premiered in February 2016. She is the first female to ever host a late-night satire show.
