Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton shares a son with his ex-girlfriend Akiko Matsuura, a source close to the former couple tells Us Weekly.
“Charlie and Akiko met while in the band Comanechi,” the insider tells Us. “They share a son, but he lives with Akiko and Charlie visits on occasion. Charlie is in L.A. most of the time auditioning and was filming for Stranger Things, but he jumps across the pond to London to see their son. Akiko and Charlie are amicable coparents.”
The news that Heaton, 23, and Matsuura are parents comes just days after the actor was denied entry into the United States after traces of cocaine were allegedly found in his luggage. Us confirmed that he flew from London to the Los Angeles on October 21 for the season 2 premiere of the Netflix sci-fi series. After a small amount of the drug was detected, U.S. Customs and Border Protection sent him back to London, though he was not arrested.
“CBP officers treat all international travelers with integrity, respect and professionalism while keeping the highest standards of security,” the federal law enforcement agency said in a statement to Us.
The East Yorkshire native, who plays Jonathan Byers on Stranger Things, was most recently linked to his costar Natalia Dyer, who plays Nancy Wheeler. They were spotted holding hands earlier this year on numerous occasions. Neither of them have publicly confirmed whether they are dating. She was in attendance at the show’s premiere in L.A. on Thursday, October 26.
