Not on their watch! Tom Brady was heavily criticized for kissing his 10-year-old son on the lips in his new Facebook docuseries, Tom vs. Time — and now his fans are coming to his defense.
Just days before playing in the Super Bowl LII, the clip caused quite the controversy on social media, and people took to Twitter on Friday, February 2, to debate whether or not it was appropriate for the Patriots star quarterback to share such affection with his child.
In the video, Brady’s eldest son, John — whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan — walked into a room, where the NFL star was getting a massage, and asked if he could look at his fantasy football team’s standings. Brady asked John what he would get in return, and the child leaned in and kissed him on the lips. “That was, like, a peck,” Brady, 40, said after his son walked away. The little boy then returned to give his dad another kiss that lasted longer than the first.
Fans quickly took to social media to share their criticism of the affectionate father and son moment. “Tom Brady is one of my five favorite people (including family members), but him making his son come back and kiss him on the lips for a longer time because his first lip kiss wasn’t long enough is some very very disturbing #content,” one tweeted.
However, other users came to the football player’s defense, with one writing: “Shame on all of the ignorant people who have criticized Tom Brady for kissing his son on the lips.”
Shame on all of the ignorant people who have criticized Tom Brady for kissing his son on the lips. In a world full of abuse and absentee fathers, you want to slam this man for showing innocent affection to his son? WTH? #newtombradyfan #tombrady

Everyone has an opinion and wants to criticize Tom Brady's affection towards his son. Why don't we focus on the parents who don't show their children any affection https://t.co/WHVc3NegwR

As much as I hate Tom Brady… Sometimes my 11 y/o son kisses me on the mouth but most times he doesn't. My 13 y/o will not. It's fine. My dad is 74. I don't kiss him on the mouth. It's fine. Let people be.
On another note, #FlyEaglesFly #SuperBowl 😊

I do not like Tom Brady, that said I commend him for not being afraid to show his son that he loves him. I don’t think there is anything wrong with kissing your kids on the lips. Unless they are 18 and tongue is involved. 😂
