White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is building her family while growing her political career.
On May 7, 2026, Leavitt and her husband Nicholas Riccio, who is 32 years her senior, confirmed that they welcomed daughter Viviana “Vivi” Riccio on May 1. The pair are also mom and dad to Nicholas Robert “Niko” Riccio.
“The greatest Christmas gift we could ever ask for — a baby girl coming in May 2026,” Leavitt teased via Instagram in December 2025. “My husband and I are thrilled to grow our family and can’t wait to watch our son become a big brother. My heart is overflowing with gratitude to God for the blessing of motherhood, which I truly believe is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth.”

Leavitt married husband Nicholas Riccio in January 2025 after meeting in 2022. Leavitt has been open about the pair’s 32-year age gap, telling Megyn Kelly in February 2025, “I mean it’s a very atypical love story, but he’s incredible.”
Riccio, who grew up in New Hampshire, is a real estate developer who runs his own company, Riccio Enterprises. As Leavitt also told Kelly, the duo first met when Riccio attended an event in support of her failed run for Congress. She was 25 at the time.

Leavitt and Riccio welcomed their first child together, son Nicholas Robert Riccio, in July 2024. Leavitt famously gave birth to Nicholas only days before Trump was shot the same month and returned to work nearly immediately.
“I looked at my husband and said, ‘Looks like I’m going back to work,’” she explained to The Conservateur in October 2024.
She also spoke to Kelly about her decision to return to work so soon after his birth. “My son doesn’t give a crap about my job. He just wants me to come home and snuggle and play toys and be present,” she explained. “It is a difficult balance to prioritize being good at my job and being good as a mother, but I just try to prioritize my time and carve out that time when I can.”

Leavitt announced she and Riccio are expecting their second baby together, a daughter, in December 2025.

Leavitt was expected to begin her maternity leave on April 24, 2026, but was unexpectedly back in the White House press briefing room one day later after a gunman opened fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25, 2026. (Suspected gunman Cole Tomas Allen was apprehended and charged with three criminal charges, including attempting to assassinate Trump. He has yet to enter a plea, as of publication.)
On May 7, 2026, Leavitt shared much happier news that her daughter Vivi had arrived six days earlier.
“On May 1st, Viviana aka “Vivi” joined our family, and our hearts instantly exploded with love. 💕,” she wrote. “She is perfect and healthy, and her big brother is joyfully adjusting to life with his new baby sister. We are enjoying every moment in our blissful newborn bubble.”
The political spokesperson added, “Thank you to everyone who reached out with prayers during my pregnancy — I truly felt them throughout the entire experience. God is Good.”
