Sofia Vergara, Solange Knowles and Emily Maynard were all teen moms — find out who else welcomed a baby before they celebrated their 20th birthday.
Eight Celebrities Who Were Teen Moms
Fantasia Barrino was just 17 when she gave birth to her daughter, Zion, in 2001. “I ended up dropping out of school and having a child at a young age,” the season 3 American Idol winner said in 2009. “And I thank God for my daughter, but if I could have waited, I would have.” Zion’s dad is Barrino’s ex-boyfriend Brandel Shouse.
Keisha Castle-Hughes became pregnant when she 16 and gave birth to daughter Felicity-Amore Hill in 2007 when the actress was 17 years old. “Once I found out I was pregnant there was no decision. I was shocked, but it was like, ‘OK, we are having a baby.’ Then we had to get into action mode quickly,” the Game of Thrones actress told Vanity Fair in 2015. “Having Felicity was the best thing that ever happened to me. Yes, I was very young, but I knew I had a good support system from my family. It really does take a village to raise a child. I couldn’t have done it without them.” Castle-Hughes ended her engagement to Felicity’s father in 2010 and is now married to writer Jonathan Morrison.
Model Niki Taylor was 19 when she welcomed twins Jake and Hunter in 1994 with her then husband Matt Martinez. “We like the same music and movies and we think the same things are cool,” she told Mom magazine in 2010 about her sons. “We just look at things kind of the same way.” Taylor has since expanded her brood with her Nascar driver husband, Burney Lamar. They welcomed daughter Ciel in 2009 and son Rex in 2011.
In October 2004, 18-year-old Solange Knowles and her then husband, Daniel Smith, welcomed their son, Daniel Julez. “We were crazy, impulsive teenagers,” Beyoncé’s younger sister told the Evening Standard in 2012. “And I was obviously craving some sort of stability.” The singer, who split from Smith in 2007, is now married to video director Alan Ferguson.
When Emily Maynard was 19, her Nascar driver fiancé, Ricky Hendrick, died in a 2004 plane crash. Just days later, she learned she was pregnant with their daughter, whom she named Ricki in his memory. The former Bachelorette and her husband, Tyler Johnson, welcomed their first child together, a son named Jennings, in July 2015.
In 2008, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin revealed that her 17-year-old daughter, Bristol Palin, was five months pregnant. “Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned,” Sarah and her husband, Todd Palin, said in a statement. “We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents.” Bristol and her then fiancé, Levi Johnston, welcomed son Tripp in December 2008 and split in 2009. Bristol welcomed daughter Sailor Grace in December 2015 with U.S. Marine Dakota Meyer, who she married in June 2016.
Sofia Vergara says being a young mom — she shares son Manolo, whom she gave birth to in 1992, with ex-husband Joe Gonzalez — had its benefits. “When I had Manolo, I was 19, and I had the energy for everything,” the Modern Family bombshell told Redbook in 2011. But it forced her to grow up quickly. “It’s a big responsibility; you can’t go out much at night,” she told the magazine. “Instead of buying a pair of shoes, you have to buy diapers. When you have a kid, you have to be more mature.”
Vergara married college sweetheart Gonzalez, when she was 18. They divorced two years later. She married Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello in November 2015.
