Alexa PenaVega reflected on the loss of her daughter Indy and the grief that has followed.
“Two years ago today we lost our beautiful daughter, Indy,” PenaVega, 37, wrote via Instagram on Monday, April 13, alongside a photo of her three other kids she shares with husband Carlos PenaVega, holding a photograph of Indy.
Alexa continued, “Her little life transformed ours and will always be a gift to us. Never in a million years did we ever fathom having to walk through the death of our own child. But here we are today navigating grief and joy like a little dance.”
The Spy Kids alum went on to note that despite their family’s “deep pain,” a “spark” of “joy” was found.
“A miraculous joy that can only come from God,” Alexa explained. “He used Indy’s life to plant a seed within us. He gave our family a fresh lens, a new purpose and a joy for what we do have here on earth. She will always be a part of everything we do and not a day will go by without remembering the heaven that awaits us with her in it.”
Alexa previously opened up about Indy’s death one year after she gave birth in April 2024.

“This was the most painful moment I have ever experienced. I remember it feeling so hard to breathe,” she captioned a photo of herself holding Indy in her arms. “It didn’t feel real.”
She first shared that Indy’s death was a “surprise loss” in January 2025.

“Nobody was expecting it. We had a heartbeat two minutes up until delivery,” she said via YouTube at the time. “When I found out that they were struggling with the heartbeat, I don’t think that I could really grasp in that moment what was going on.”
The actress added, “It really doesn’t make sense, the peace that we felt because it was so painful. It’s still painful. We felt so blessed through it.”
Alexa also recalled feeling nervous about experiencing grief in the months to come.
“After we lost her, I was concerned that in time I wouldn’t be OK,” she said. “Through the process, you have to relive the experience over and over again, which is painful.”
Alexa and Carlos, 36, are also the parents of Ocean, 9, Kingston, 6, and Rio, 4.
