Seal it with a kiss! Alicia Vikander, who won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in The Danish Girl at the 88th Academy Awards, may have forgotten to mention her boyfriend Michael Fassbender in her acceptance speech —but she made up for it with a sweet smooch.
Right after her name was called, a Louis Vuitton–clad Vikander, 27, planted a peck on Fassbender, 38, before saying her thank-yous. For the normally private pair, this precious moment of PDA was very rare.
“Wow. Thank you so much, the Academy, for this incredible recognition,” she told the crowd after lip locking with her beau. “I share this with our fabulous crew and cast.”
The Swedish actress then went on to thank director Tom Hooper, costar Eddie Redmayne and, finally, her parents: “Thank you for giving me the belief that anything can happen, even though I would never believe this. Thank you.”
While she and Fassbender broke up in September 2015, Vikander made it quite clear last night that the two are indeed back on. As Us Weekly previously reported, the actors’ romance first began in 2014 when they met on the set of The Light Between Oceans.
Back in July 2015, Vikander opened up to Net-A-Porter magazine about why she keeps her dating life on the down low.
“I knew that celebrity was a side-product of my career choice, and it’s totally worth it if I get to do what I love, but it’s not something I feel very comfortable with,” she explained. “I’ve spoken to a lot of actors who have taught me that it is a choice. I believe that staying private is something you can choose, and it is certainly the choice I’m making.”
