Nothing to hide. Amber Heard stepped out in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 8, amid her ugly split from Johnny Depp — and a new report that she was arrested and booked for misdemeanor domestic violence charges against her then-girlfriend Tasya van Ree in 2009.
The Danish Girl actress, 30, kept her look dressed down and casual in a black knit top, loose blue jeans and black spiked sneakers. Heard capped off her outfit with an oversized, floppy black hat.
On Tuesday, TMZ reported that Heard was once arrested for domestic violence after she got into a heated argument with van Ree, 40, at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Charges were never filed, however.
Van Ree came forward in defense of her ex on Wednesday, issuing a statement to Us Weekly that denied the seriousness of the incident.
“In 2009, Amber was wrongfully accused for an incident that was misinterpreted and over-sensationalized by two individuals in a power position,” she wrote. “I recount hints of misogynistic attitudes toward us which later appeared to be homophobic when they found out we were domestic partners and not just ‘friends.’ Charges were quickly dropped and she was released moments later. It’s disheartening that Amber’s integrity and story are being questioned yet again. Amber is a brilliant, honest and beautiful woman and I have the utmost respect for her. We shared 5 wonderful years together and remain close to this day.”
As previously reported, Heard was granted a restraining order against her estranged husband late last month, just days after she filed for divorce. In court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Heard accuses Depp, 52, of physical abuse throughout the course of their nearly 15-month marriage.
Depp’s divorce lawyer, Laura Wasser, has since argued that Heard is using allegations of domestic abuse to secure financial gain in the trial.
The estranged couple will next return to court on Friday, June 17.
“He’s going to defend himself, then give her what is ordered,” an insider tells Us.
