Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie may play estranged spouses in By the Sea, but on the cover of Vanity Fair Italia, the real-life husband and wife look closer than ever.
The headline reads: “Angelina & Brad Felici di amare,” which translates to “happy in love.”
By the Sea, which Jolie directed and wrote, marks the first time that the Maleficent star, 40, and Pitt, 51, have shared the screen since 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith. They filmed the romantic drama shortly after their surprise wedding in August 2014.
“When we first worked together it was very different because we didn’t really know each other and we were young, and it was really a fun film, so we thought maybe By the Sea was going to be that kind of fun, but realized very quickly that it wasn’t,” the mother of six told The Telegraph earlier this month. “So it was challenging [this time], but we made a private pact that we were going to try to be as open and honest and emotive as possible and give to each other as much as we could and, succeed or fail, we would just lay it bare.”
Pitt, for his part, loved the chance to have his wife direct him.
“It’s surprising how much I enjoy the direction of my wife,” he told V magazine. “She’s decisive, incredibly intuitive, and might I say sexy at her post. I trust her with my life.”
