Angelina Jolie Made Divorce Decision ‘One Week Ago’

No time wasted! Angelina Jolie Pitt made the decision to divorce Brad Pitt after two years of marriage and 12 years together “one week ago,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. Us confirmed the couple’s split on Tuesday, September 20. Find out what went wrong in their romance in the video above!

“The final divorce decision was only made one week ago,” the insider tells Us of Jolie Pitt’s resolve to permanently part ways with Pitt, 52. “An incident took place and prompted [Angelina] to act and file.”

While details of the incident remain unknown, the insider tells Us that it “affected the entire family.” Though she may have acted hastily, pulling the plug on her relationship with the eternal heartthrob was not an easy call to make for Jolie Pitt, 41.

“She still says Brad is the love of her life, and the decision has weighed heavy on her heart,” the source adds. “Her priority now is the children.” The Oscar-winning actress and director is presently in New York, according to the insider.

While many have speculated that Pitt’s sexy Allied costar Marion Cotillard played a part in Brangelina’s demise, a source tells Us that “Marion was not the reason for the divorce.”

Shortly after the shocking news broke Tuesday, Page Six reported that the Maleficent star hired a private investigator to spy on her husband while he was shooting Allied in London. According to the outlet, Jolie Pitt caught Pitt cheating on her with Cotillard, 40, and it was “the final straw.” However, “Angelina did not hire a private eye," according to the source.

As previously reported, Jolie Pitt filed divorce documents Monday, September 19, citing irreconcilable differences. Jolie Pitt is reportedly requesting physical custody of their six children, Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8. TMZ reported that she requested that Pitt only get joint legal custody. She is not asking for spousal support.

Jolie Pitt’s rep issued a statement to Us on Tuesday regarding the end of the A-list pair’s romance. "Angelina Jolie Pitt has filed for dissolution of the marriage,” the statement read. "This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time.”

Jolie Pitt and Pitt tied the knot on August 23, 2014, during a romantic ceremony in Southern France. They first met on the 2004 set of their film Mr. and Mrs. Smith, when the World War Z actor was still married to Jennifer Aniston. The Friends alum, now 47, called it quits on her five-year union with Pitt after she reportedly discovered his on-set indiscretions with Jolie Pitt. Months later, Pitt and Jolie Pitt went public with their controversial romance. The UN special envoy was previously married to Billy Bob Thornton from 2000 to 2003. Prior to that, she was wed to British actor Jonny Lee Miller from 1996 to 1999.
