Angelina Jolie arrives in Los Angeles, California, with sons Maddox and Pax on July 11, 2013, following the trio's trip to Hawaii to scout locations for the movie Unbroken.

Aloha, L.A! After a short trip to Hawaii with her sons Maddox and Pax, Angelina Jolie is on the mainland once again.

The Academy Award-winning actress, 37, returned to Los Angeles on Thursday, July 11, four days after she left for the island of Oahu. Wearing flip-flops, black pants, and a black camisole, the Maleficent star exited a plane at the airport followed closely by Pax, 9, who hugged a huge purple teddy bear. Maddox, 11, walked behind them, carrying a blue suitcase and wearing — like his mom — head-to-toe black.

Jolie and her two eldest sons had been in Hawaii on a location-scouting trip for the star's sophomore directorial effort, Unbroken, a World War II-era drama based on a book by Laura Hillenbrand. The film, written by Oscar-winning duo Joel and Ethan Coen and starring British actor Jack O'Connell, tells the life story of Olympian and war hero Louis Zamperini, who survived a plane crash in the middle of the ocean only to be captured by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.

As part of Jolie's trip to the island of Oahu, she and a producer visited Honolulu City Hall, a.k.a. WWII-era Honolulu Hale, where she interacted briefly with local workers and business people. "I said, 'Hi,' and she got this big smile on her face and [answered], 'Hello, how are you?'" one eyewitness told Us of Brad Pitt's fiancee.

"She's so beautiful. She looks great," the onlooker added. "I couldn't tell that she had any surgery."

Unbroken will mark Jolie's first major project post-mastectomy. And she's making sure no detail goes unattended.
