Angelina Jolie’s famous dad, actor Jon Voight, is in the dark about her split from Brad Pitt. The Ray Donovan star, 77, opened up about his daughter’s divorce filing exclusively with Us Weekly on Tuesday, September 20. Find out more about the divorce in the video above.
“I have no idea [what happened], but I’ll find out,” Voight said, after Us Weekly confirmed that Brangelina had called it quits on their two-year marriage. “”I’ll be seeing Angie and the children pretty soon.”
“Obviously something serious must have happened,” he added to Us. “I don’t know what it is and I know Angie loves the children dearly and they’re her priority in life and hopefully they’re OK. It’s a tough thing for them to go through.”
Voight and the Oscar-winning actress, 41, have been estranged for years. In November 2014, after her surprise wedding to Pitt, he revealed that he didn’t know Jolie and Pitt had tied the knot. The pair exchanged vows in France that August with their six children— Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8 — in attendance.
“It seems like it was very nice — and with all of the kids involved, it must have been a lot of fun and very beautiful. I’m happy for them,” Voight told Us at the time. “I didn’t know it was happening — it was Emmys week, so I wasn’t able to go.” (The Lone Star actor attended the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday.)
Voight was married to Jolie’s late mom, Marcheline Bertrand, from 1971 to 1980. Jolie was very close to Bertrand, who died in 2007 at the age of 56 from breast cancer. Back in 2013, Jolie revealed that she underwent a preventative double mastectomy after she learned she was at higher risk for the disease. Last year, she told the Today show that her mom made their family doctor “promise” a decade ago to take Jolie’s ovaries out.
