No freshman parties yet! Ariel Winter revealed during the 2016 Emmy Awards that she is deferring her acceptance to the University of California, Los Angeles, for one year because of her Modern Family schedule. Hear what she had to say in the clip above!
“The problem was, I had made my schedule, and when I went to production we couldn’t make it for this year due to heavy story line,” Winter, 18, told E! News’ Jason Kennedy on Sunday, September 18. “Unfortunately, I have to go next year instead of this year. But, that’s OK. I’m still going to be a Bruin. I’m superexcited to go next year. It was a little late in the game, but it’s all good.”
Winter, who has starred on the 22-time Emmy-winning series since 2009, announced in April that she was heading to college.
“You still want to be an attorney?” Kennedy asked on the red carpet outside L.A.’s Microsoft Theater.
Winter, clad in a silver Yousef Al-Jasmi gown, replied: “I definitely do, yes.”
Winter is open to making new friends at school too — even if they are fans of the ABC comedy. “That’s amazing if somebody is a fan of the show. I’m supergrateful for that,” she said. “Definitely doesn’t make it awkward.”
The teen actress was just as open about her talked-about love life. Earlier this month, she tweeted that she was “single AF” amid rumors that she was dating her friend Sterling Beaumon. (She previously split from boyfriend Laurent Claude Gaudette in June after two years of dating.)
“I brought my best friend Jesse [to the Emmys],” Winter told Kennedy. “So, we are dates for the night.”
