Ariel Winter Slams Haters for Body Shaming, Saying She’s Asking for It With Bikini Photo

Speaking out. Ariel Winter slammed haters for body shaming her on Friday, Nov. 13, after she posted a throwback pic of herself in a blue bikini with her nieces on a boat.

“Who knew that an innocent photo with my nieces would turn into this?” the Modern Family actress, 17, captioned a pic she shared on Instagram in response to the negative comments, showing a close up of a woman’s leg with marks on it, identifying the different labels given to women depending on the length of their skirt. “The height of a girl’s skirt or whatever she is wearing for that matter, does not imply what she is asking for. It sickens me to think that at 17, a photo of myself with my nieces is suggesting that I’m ‘asking for it,’” she wrote.

But the actress — who underwent breast reduction surgery back in August — didn’t stop there.

“I typically never give power to the mean things people bravely say behind their computer screens on the Internet, but this is for the girls who are constantly bullied whether it be online or at school. You are not asking for anything because of what you are wearing — you are expressing yourself and don’t ever think you deserve the negativity as the consequence to what you are wearing — YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. Celebrate you and don’t let anyone’s comments allow you to think less of yourself. Us girls have to stick together!”

This isn’t the first time that the young actress has spoken out against body shamers. Earlier this month, she teamed up with Ariana Grande to address online negativity and hate, after a commenter body-shamed her on her Instagram account and compared the “Focus” singer to Winter.

“Diversity is sexy!” the 22-year-old pop star tweeted. “We live in a day and age where people make it impossible for women, men, anyone to embrace themselves exactly how they are.”

In response, Winter reposted Grande’s comments, adding, “Thank you @arianagrande for posting this on Instagram. I especially believe in today’s world we all need to stick together — I believe in empowering other women and not putting them down. You are beautiful.”
