Squeal! A video clip of a 7-week-old baby’s reaction after hearing for the first time has gone viral. The baby’s father, Toby Lever, shared the heartwarming recording on YouTube alongside a sweet message Sunday, Aug. 31.
“Our beautiful son Lachlan was diagnosed as having moderate to severe hearing loss in both ears,” Lever wrote. “When he was 7 weeks old he received his first hearing aids. His reaction when they were turned on was truly amazing. We cried from happiness.”
The clip features baby Lachlan crying on his mom’s lap as doctors insert hearing aids into his ear canals. Though fussy and fidgety at first, his reaction to hearing his mom Michelle and dad’s voices is truly priceless. “Hello Lachlan! Hi darling,” his mom says in the clip. “Hi,” says the baby’s father as Lachlan lifts his head in curiosity.
Slowly, a smile spreads wide across his face.
“Our beautiful little boy is now 2 years old and doing remarkably,” Lever concluded on YouTube. Since the Victoria, Australia natives posted the clip, it’s received more than 2 million plays online. Lachlan’s mother, meanwhile, told Yahoo! News that parents in similar situations should not be discouraged.
“I want them to realize that there is a lot of support and help available to them,” Michelle said.
