Two members of the Bachelor/Bachelorette family are once again free agents.
Former Bachelorette contestant Arie Luyendyk Jr. (who was a finalist in Emily Maynard's season after she chose Jef Holm) was — but is no longer — dating this season's former Bachelor hopeful, Selma Alameri, he tells Us Weekly.
The Arizona race car driver, 31, tells Us that though he and the 29-year-old San Diego real estate developer had initial sparks that led to a short-lived relationship, the pair realized quickly that they weren't a good fit after all.
"Obviously we shared a common interest, when two people go through this [the show], it's easy to relate to them," he told Us at a Bachelor finale viewing party (which he co-hosted with Holm) in Chicago on Monday, March 11.
"That's what kind of drew me to her in the first place. She's obviously a beautiful girl but we decided it was probably best for us not to date," he continued. "I just want to keep my relationships private in the future. That's the reason Courtney and I split up and I probably should have learned from that, but hindsight is 20/20 and I'm happy to move forward and have a private relationship."
Last September, shortly after getting rejected by Maynard, 26, Luyendyk told Us that he was ready to move on from the franchise.
"I've moved on from the Bachelor franchise and I'm doing well," he said at the time. "When I was in that environment, I gained a lot of clarity on what I wanted to do in life and for me it really made me just focus on my career when I got out. That's my first love and I'm pursuing that right now."
Luyendyk previously dated bachelor Ben Flajnik's former fiance, model Courtney Robertson, 29, in the wake of her split with Flanjik in Oct. 2012; Luyendyk and Robertson went their separate ways in January 2012.
