Gotham might want to invest in a stunt double if they plan on keeping leading man Ben McKenzie around. The hunky O.C. alum, 36, suffered a severe head injury while filming a scene for the upcoming FOX superhero drama.
The longtime TV actor, who plays a young Detective James Gordon in the series, posted several Instagram photos of the accident on Friday, Sept. 12.
“Yeah, it’s from a fight scene on Friday,” McKenzie explained to Us Weekly at the show’s NYC premiere on Monday, Sept. 15. “I hit a concrete pillar with my head.”
Sustaining the injury on his 36th birthday, the Southland star remained lighthearted when writing about it on social media.
“Holy concrete wall, Batman! #gotham,” he captioned an image, adding, “Happy Birthday to me. Fight sequence gone awry. Don’t ram your head into concrete pillars kids. #gotham.”
Despite his nasty head gash and bruise, McKenzie looked polished and ready to go at the premiere, gushing about his character.
“He’s an old-school hero in an antihero age, and I think that’s kind of refreshing,” he told Us. “So hopefully, they can kind of root for him as he battles these bad guys.”
