Say cheese! Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds surprised just about everyone when they tied the knot in September 2012 — and it wasn’t until May 2014 that they finally posed together on a red carpet. The May 2015 Allure cover girl recalled to the magazine that the first time she felt comfortable striking a pose next to her husband was at the 2014 Met Gala.
“It was the first time we were ever on the red carpet together,” the new mom, 27, said of a photo of herself dolled up with Reynolds, 38, at last year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala. “It was scary to put yourself out there like that, but then it also seems really silly to be standing five feet from each other and refusing to stand together. It’s always that tricky balance of keeping your privacy but then also not being absurd. And then there’s also that thing where you think, It would be nice for our kids to see a photo of Mommy and Daddy dressed up together.” Lively and Reynolds, who married after just a year of dating, have always been uber-private, and even managed to keep their South Carolina 2012 wedding under wraps until fans started to spot their family members around town.
The couple, who starred together in 2011’s Green Lantern, then posed side-bye-side at the Cannes Film Festival later that same month after the Met Gala. “That might be my favorite dress I’ve ever worn out,” Lively said of the black and white Dior gown she wore to the event, where she grinned from ear to ear while posing next to Reynolds. “Every little girl wants to wear a ball gown, I think. Well, not every little girl, but the little girl that I was wanted to wear a ball gown. That was my Disney-princess [moment] that I get to relive.”
And although she settled down with Reynolds when she was just 25 years old, Lively doesn’t regret calling it quits on her single life at a young age.
“Oh, my God. That is so nasty! Sowing your oats? Lord have mercy!” she responded when asked if she wished she had “more of a chance to sow her wild oats before settling down.”
The Age of Adaline star does, however, regret that Gossip Girl viewers so closely associated her with her onscreen character, Serena van der Woodsen. “The lines become blurred,” she told the mag. “It’s a weird thing when people feel like they know you really well, and they don’t. I would not be proud to be the person who gave someone the cocaine that made them overdose and then shot someone and slept with someone else’s boyfriend.”
