Before he was The Voice’s resident rabble-rouser, Blake Shelton was just your average joe — with a mullet, that is.
In newly uncovered high school photos of the handsome country singer, Shelton, 39, rocks a mullet (business in the front, party in the back), round spectacles, and plenty of brightly colored dress shirts and chunky belt buckles.
In one photo, Gwen Stefani’s new boyfriend even shows off a bit of a gap-toothed grin as he and a happy young gal pal hug each other closely and pose for the camera.
Still undeniably Shelton? His tall frame and his deep dimples.
According to the Daily Mail, one of his high school yearbook quotes read: “I think the worst thing you can do is blend in. Why would you ever want to blend in?”
Just one day earlier, Shelton was looking back at another, less cheerful moment in his life — the loss of his brother Richie Shelton, who died in a car crash 25 years ago. Blake was 14; his brother was 24.
“Wow… 25 years ago today we lost my brother Richie Shelton,” he wrote in a message on Twitter. “He’s still my hero and going strong. Wish everyone could’ve known him.
The country crooner wrote his 2011 hit, “Over You,” with his ex-wife Miranda Lambert in remembrance of Richie.
“That’s one of the things I got when my brother was killed,” he once told The Associated Press. “The family gave me all his albums and things like that. I just listened to them over and over again to feel like he was there.”
