Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas are taking time apart

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have been through a lot in their 13 years of marriage, but have they finally reached a breaking point? It looks like it.

"Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage," reps for the "Behind the Candelabra" actor, 68, and "RED 2" actress, 43, confirm to omg!. "There will be no further comment."

The statement follows a report that the couple has separated.

However, neither star has filed for divorce or legal separation. For now they are living separate lives with Douglas enjoying a holiday aboard a yacht off the coast of Sardinia, Italy, and Zeta-Jones home in New York with their children, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10.

Since the couple married, they have endured many obstacles, including Douglas's throat cancer diagnosis in 2010, Zeta-Jones's ongoing struggle with bipolar II disorder, and Douglas's son Cameron's drug addiction and incarceration.

Zeta-Jones and Douglas haven't been photographed together since April 22, which was just prior to her most recent stint in rehab to control her mental health battle. After treatment, she made a triumphant return to the red carpet to promote "RED 2," but she did so solo.

Douglas also went stag to the White House Correspondents' Dinner in April, the "Behind the Candelabra" premiere in May, and the One Centennial Sensation at Hudson Theatre in June. He was also snapped golfing without his wife in Sardinia earlier this month. While they've been together, Zeta-Jones typically hits the links with Douglas.

The actor also did some damage control after his comments about HPV possibly causing his cancer made big headlines in June. He issued a statement clarifying that he was not saying he got the sexually transmitted disease from his wife, nor does she have it.

In July, Zeta-Jones candidly admitted that Douglas's cancer was a "trigger" for her bipolar II disorder.
