Celebrating a century! Catherine Zeta-Jones took to Instagram on Friday, December 9, to post a sweet video wishing her father-in-law, Kirk Douglas, a happy 100th birthday.
For the heartwarming clip — set to the tune of David Bowie’s 1975 track “Young Americans” — Zeta-Jones, 47 (who is married to Kirk’s son Michael Douglas), put together several photos and videos looking back on the Hollywood legend’s career and life as a family man.
“Happy birthday Kirk,” a banner reads at the top of the video. “100 years old today. Love you Pappy.”
There are many snapshots of Kirk hanging out with Zeta-Jones, Michael and the couple’s kids, Dylan, 16, and Carys, 13. In one particularly touching shot, the seasoned actor is seen playing around with his grandkids in gladiator costumes — an obvious nod to his famed role in 1960’s Spartacus. “Spartacus’ children in training,” Zeta-Jones wrote in another banner.
Turning the big 1-0-0 is a huge milestone, particularly for Kirk, who has suffered two major health scares: a 1991 helicopter crash and a 1996 stroke. The three-time Oscar nominee — who is also dad of sons Eric, Joel and Peter Douglas — has starred in more than 90 movies and television shows since launching his career in the 1940s.
Though he hasn’t appeared on film or TV since 2008’s made-for-TV film Empire State Building Murderers, he’s been busy working on another project. He and his second wife, Anne Douglas — whom he’s been married to for 62 years — penned an upcoming memoir called Kirk and Anne: Letters of Love, Laughter, and a Lifetime in Hollywood, which hits bookstores in May.
