A little privacy, please! Chloë Grace Moretz sat down with the ladies of The Talk on Thursday, May 19, and revealed the reason why she and boyfriend Brooklyn Beckham haven’t made things official until just recently.
“Well, we’ve been off and on together for a couple of years now, and we just kind of made it official,” the 19-year-old star of Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising said of their newly public relationship. “We were always running from paparazzi and running from people taking pictures of us. And we were like, ‘You know what? It’s affecting our relationship.’”
The teen added that she and Beckham, 17, weren’t able to “go to the restaurants we wanted to go to or just go to a movie.”
“And so we thought, ‘You know what? If we’re more upfront about it and we break down the iron curtain and we just let them take our photo, they’re not going to care,’” Moretz concluded.
The couple, who met at a SoulCycle class back in August 2014, have been largely mum about their relationship, but in recent weeks, both have come clean about the fact that they’re dating.
Beckham (the eldest child of Victoria and David Beckham) adorably captioned a black-and-white snapshot of Moretz sitting in a hallway with takeout food in front of her in early May, and on a May 9 episode of Watch What Happens Live, the actress similarly confirmed their relationship status.
“We’re in a relationship. It’s fine. It’s no biggie,” she told show host Andy Cohen. “I think the more I don’t make it mysterious, the more people don’t care, so, yes, we’re in a relationship. Very exciting news I’m sure.”
In a recent interview with Net-a-Porter’s The EDIT, Moretz noted that it’s tough to date as someone in the industry, because guys have “seen you in sex scenes in movies. They know what you look like crying.”
