Cory Monteith Remembered by Glee in Emotional Memorial Card

Cory Monteith will forever be in the hearts of his Glee family and fans. The Fox musical series posted an emotional memorial card video in honor of the late actor, who died tragically at the age of 31 from a lethal overdose of heroin and alcohol on July 13.

Though the video is only 12 second long, Glee packs in touching clips of Monteith, who starred on the show as the beloved jock Finn Hudson. It also shows cute moments with costar and real-life girlfriend Lea Michele (Rachel Berry), including a romantic kiss under falling confetti. A written message in the video reads, “Cory Monteith: Forever in our hearts.”

Glee returns to Fox for its fifth season on Sept 26. During a Television Critics Association panel on Thursday, Aug. 1, Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly said the show would “deal directly” with Monteith’s death. “The third episode will deal with the Finn Hudson character being written out of the show,” Reilly said. “What I will tell you is that that episode will deal directly with the incidents involved in Cory’s passing and with the drug abuse in particular.”

Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy also plans to “shoot some PSAs with the cast” that will “speak directly to the audience” about Monteith’s death. The show consulted Michele, 26, about when they would get back to work. “She was very adamant that she thought it was best for the cast and crew to get back together sooner [rather] than later,” Murphy said. “Cory was so beloved that she felt people really needed to be together in this time. So we sort of followed her lead.”

The actress tweeted about returning to set on Aug. 1, writing, “First day of glee today . . . And at my first wardrobe fitting for Rachel Berry for Season Five! I’ve missed her so much.” She first broke her Twitter silence after Monteith’s passing on July 29, tweeting, “Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support. Cory will forever be in my heart.”
