Engaged for the summer? After more than five years of dating, Demi Lovato feels pretty confident in her relationship with Wilmer Valderrama. While speaking to a New Zealand radio show, ZM, the “Cool for the Summer” songstress, 22, admitted she’s definitely open to the possibility of marriage.
“I am very, very in love with him,” Lovato said of the That ‘70s Show alum, 35. “I think we’ll probably wait a little bit longer, but if he asked tomorrow, I’d say yes.”
The couple has definitely come a long way. Lovato admitted that when they first started dating, their 13-year age gap raised some eyebrows.
“I was 18 and he was 30 so people were definitely judgmental and even my parents were kind of, ‘Why is someone his age wanting to date someone so young?’” she explained. “And after a while everyone around us started to see that what we have was real and incredible and very special, and we’ve been together ever since. Obviously my family loves him [now]. People kind of stop doing that because you can see when we’re together or even just from our Instagrams that we’re very sweet to one another.”
Valderrama was by Lovato’s side while she struggled with addiction, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and cutting. She has been very open about her issues and her 2010 stint in rehab, and the actor’s involvement in her recovery.
But these days Lovato is preparing for a different wedding — that of Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, who asked her to be a bridesmaid.
“She’s pretty chill so I can’t imagine that she’ll be one of those brides that’ll be super particular,” Lovato, who Instagrammed a picture from Azalea’s surprise engagement to basketball player Nick Young several months ago, noted.
When asked if she’d be forced to wear an ugly peach-colored bridesmaid dress, Lovato replied, “I hope not, but it’s her day so I’ll do whatever she wants.”
