Dennis Quaid is asking the court to renegotiate his child support payments to ex-wife Kimberly Buffington.

The Parent Trap star, 72, filed paperwork last week to terminate his $13,750 monthly child support payments for twins Thomas and Zoe, 18, Us Weekly confirmed on Thursday, May 28.

TMZ was first to report the news.

According to court documents obtained by USA Today, Quaid cited the terms of his 2018 divorce agreement with Buffington, 54, which stated that the payments would end “when a child completes 12th grade.” Zoe graduated from high school on May 23, while Thomas is slated to graduate on June 3.

Per his current agreement with his ex, Quaid is required to pay Buffington an additional sum each year if he makes more than $1.3 million, according to USA Today. In his new filing, Quaid requested that any bonus amount be prorated to the date of his kids’ graduations.

Back in 2020, Quaid filed court documents agreeing to pay more in child support based on his boosted income, as long as it was “based on the reasonable needs of Thomas and Zoe,” TMZ reported at the time.

Quaid and Buffington tied the knot in July 2004 and welcomed their twins three years later. The pair separated and filed for divorce in March 2012 and briefly reconciled the following month. However, they split again that October, and Buffington filed for legal separation but the request was dismissed when the now-exes reconciled a second time.

Buffington filed for divorce again in 2016.

“After careful consideration, we have decided to end our 12-year marriage,” the pair said in a statement to TMZ at the time. “The decision was made amicably and with mutual respect toward one another. We will always remain great friends and devoted partners in raising our children.”

The divorce was finalized in 2018. The exes agreed to joint legal and physical custody of Thomas and Zoe, with Buffington having the kids 75 percent of the time and Quaid 25 percent due to his busy career.

Quaid was previously married to P.J. Soles from 1978 to 1983 and Meg Ryan from 1991 to 2001. He and Ryan, 64, share son Jack, 34.

Following his divorce from Buffington, Quaid moved on with Laura Savoie, whom he married in June 2020.

“God is in our relationship. That [had] never even occurred to me before,” Quaid exclusively told Us in February. “I thought, ‘Well, I have a relationship with God, so did she,’ but to have God be the third entity in the relationship is kind of a new idea. But that’s really the way it is.”
