Donald Trump Said “It’s Easy” for Women Who Wear Burqas Because They Don’t Have to Wear Makeup

Donald Trump has ruffled even more feathers after making offensive statements about Muslim women’s attire. During an event in Atkinson, N.H., on Monday, Oct. 26, the GOP presidential hopeful, 69, spoke out about an unnamed Republican’s suggestion that we fight to free women from having to wear burqas.

“We want it where the women over there don’t have to wear [burqas]. And then I said, ‘Oh that makes sense.’ But then I saw women interviewed and they said, ‘We want to wear them. We’ve worn them for thousands of years. Why would anybody tell us not to?’” Trump said, addressing the crowd. “They want to! What the hell are we getting involved for?”

He went on to note that Muslim women like to wear the religious garment because “it’s easy.”

“They don’t have to put on makeup,” he said. “Look how beautiful everyone looks. Wouldn’t it be easier? I’ll tell ya, if I was a woman [mimes putting on burqa with his hand] ‘I’m ready, darling, let’s go!’” 

People on social media immediately lashed out at the billionaire’s comments, slamming his offensive words.

“Yes #DonaldTrump please wear a burqa that covers your mouth too,” @ShairaSMohan tweeted. @RexHupppke added, “Donald Trump thinks a burqa is easier for women than wearing makeup, much like a screaming goat is easier for voters than listening to Trump.” 

Trump will appear in the Wednesday, Oct. 28 GOP debate.
