What?! Drew Barrymore told Marie Claire that she calls her best friend, Cameron Diaz,“Poo Poo.” The April 2016 cover girl revealed the odd yet endearing nickname for her pal while chatting with her husband Will Kopelman’s sister, Jill Kargman, for her interview.
“I’ve never felt comfortable with this, sort of, camaraderie of famous people,” Barrymore, 41, told her sister-in-law while talking about celebrity pals. “I’ve known Poo Poo [Cameron Diaz] since I was 14 years old. We just happened to know each other before her career started, and I was working in a coffeehouse trying to re-figure out my life. So in a weird way, it doesn’t even count with us.”
The two pals have remained close ever since meeting at that coffeehouse years ago.
The former child star didn’t expand on the nickname — or where it came from for that matter — but has referred to her BFF as “Poo Poo” before. In her 2015 memoir, Wildflower, Barrymore recalled a time when she went skydiving with “Poo Poo.”
The Miss You Already star and Diaz, 43, joined forces on the big screen in the 2000 remake of Charlie’s Angels, and again in the 2003 sequel, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. Barrymore was also on hand as one of Diaz’s bridesmaids when she married Benji Madden in January 2015.
The two have always had each other’s backs. During a July 2014 radio interview with KIIS 106.5’s Kyle & Jackie O, the Other Woman actress cut the conversation short after the hosts brought up Barrymore’s “drug years.”
