The Aussie Posse has a place to stay! It’s been just over two weeks since Kathleen Zuidema first pleaded on Facebook for someone to give her three beloved dogs a home, and someone has already heard her plea.
The San Juan Island, Washington, resident made headlines earlier this month after she shared a heartbreaking message on the social media site asking for a pet lover to adopt her three Australian sheep dogs — Autumn Moon, Moka Luka and Finnegan — after she learned that her lung cancer had spread throughout her body and was inoperable and incurable.
“This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. My heart is breaking and I’m sobbing as I write this,” she began the post. “As a lot of you know I have been fighting cancer for about a year and a half and things are now progressing to the point where I need to secure a home for the posse. They are a package deal.”
Zuidema went on to give details on the furry threesome, who typically “entertain themselves romping in short spurts throughout the day.”
The post quickly went viral, with news outlets picking up on the touching story.
Danielle Cochran first heard about Zuidema’s plight via the Facebook post; not soon after, however, she heard an erroneous report from a Seattle news station that the dogs had already found a home.
Luckily, one day later, someone at the local pet feed store clarified that the news was wrong — the Aussie Posse still needed a home.
“I went straight over there and knocked on her door,” Cochran, who is a neighbor of Zuidema’s, told Q13 Fox. According to the news site, she and her husband already own two dogs of their own.
“I felt really, really, really relieved and great about it,” Zuidema told the station of the situation. “But on the other hand it’s heartbreaking.”
