Emmys 2015: What Presenters, Nominees, and Red Carpet Moments to Expect

Sofia Vergara and Jon Hamm and Amy Schumer
Sofia Vergara, Jon Hamm, and Amy Schumer are a few of the nominees from this year's Emmy Awards.

Today is definitely no “Lazy Sunday” for Emmy Awards host Andy Samberg. The Saturday Night Live alum, who is hosting his first major awards show, has a lot of ideas about what will go down on Sunday, Sept. 20, but his guess is as good as anyone’s.

“When you take on something big like this, where you have 15-to-20 million people watching across the world, it’s a lot of different senses of humor,” he told The New York Times in an interview late last week. “One person’s watching because they’re like, ‘I wonder if Mad Men’s going to win’ and another person’s like, ‘I wonder if Amy Schumer’s going to win.’”

Something the 37-year-old comedian knows, however, is that “there’s got to be dancing” at the show’s huge star-studded afterparty.

Here, Us Weekly rounds up five things you can expect from this year’s ceremonies, taking place in Los Angeles at the Microsoft Theater, and being broadcast live at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.

1. Jon Hamm — Will He, Won’t He?

All eyes will be on Jon Hamm, and whether he’ll get a win from his nomination for Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Don Draper on AMC hit Mad Men. He’s been nominated for the role since the first season in 2007, but has lost out to other Hollywood heavy hitters like Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad and Jeff Daniels of The Newsroom. Meanwhile, Mad Men has won the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy four times.

On a personal note, this will also be Hamm’s first big public appearance since his headline-making split from his girlfriend of 18 years, Jennifer Westfeldt, earlier this month.

2. New Categories, New Names

This year, a new category called Outstanding Variety Sketch Series was created to recognize the different kinds of shows out there on television — separating out series like Inside Amy Schumer and Key and Peele from late-night talk shows like The Colbert Report and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

Amy Schumer, who just wrapped up the third season of her hit show, is a favorite for the newly created category (her box office smash Trainwreck certainly doesn’t hurt), but there’s always the possibility of a plot twist.

3. Online is Where It’s At

Netflix shows like House of Cards, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Orange Is the New Black raked in multiple nominations this year, suggesting a possible changing of the tide in how viewers are getting their TV fixes.

4. Samberg Isn’t a Total Novice to Hosting

The Brooklyn Nine-Nine star has previously hosted the MTV Movie Awards in 2009 and the Independent Spirit Awards in 2013, but he’s hoping to lean a bit on his comedic pals to help him make this year’s show a great one.

“Karmically, I’m about to host a thing and asking a million people to do cameos — I should probably pay it forward, as we all do say,” he told the Times.
