Forever in his heart. Future opened up to Rolling Stone for a cover story published on Wednesday, June 29, in which he spoke about his feelings for his ex-fiancée, Ciara.
The “Jumpman” rapper, 32, explained why, despite an ugly war in the press back in the day, he will always have love for his former flame, with whom he shares his 2-year-old son, Future Zahir.
Asked about his 2014 split from the “I Bet” songstress, 30, which occurred close to the release of his widely panned sophomore album, Honest, Future replied, “I was scared as s–t. I was one step away from being married, and I feel like I failed publicly in relationships.”
“Then you want to go back to doing music, to what you know,” the hip-hop star added. “And if the people didn’t accept you again, the one thing you feel like you can fall back on, it walked away from you. You feel like it’s over.”
While Future has been accused of wishing failure upon CiCi, he insisted to Rolling Stone that he has never harbored ill will for the mother of his third child. (He is also the father of Londyn and Prince from previous relationships.)
“I would never wish that,” he declared. “[Ciara] being successful, her being happy, helps me.”
“I’m attached to you,” he continued, seemingly addressing the R&B princess directly. “If you’re happy, I’m happy. You’re connected for life. I don’t want you to go through this shit and for it to come back on my son, my kid. I want you to be in the best situation.”
As Us Weekly previously reported, the once-engaged couple parted ways in August 2014 after Ciara caught wind of Future’s ongoing affair with his wardrobe consultant, Tyrina Lee. The pair got engaged in October 2013, close to Ciara’s 28th birthday.
“She found out about the affair through multiple sources in recent weeks,” a source told Us exclusively at the time. “There was clear evidence when she approached Future about the cheating. This was clearly not just a one-night thing.”
Despite Future’s indiscretions, Ciara is looking forward to the, well, future with her fiancé, Russell Wilson. The Seattle Seahawks quarterback, 27, asked for the singer’s hand in marriage during a romantic Seychelles vacation back in March.
“I remember telling my friend the kind of guy I wanted: a God-fearing man with a very fun spirit who loves kids and would really, truly care for me,” she told the May 2016 issue of Essence magazine, explaining how her new beau meets all her prerequisites. “I was very specific because I do believe you can have it all.”
