Gwyneth Paltrow is putting her acting career on hold. The Oscar-winning star, 43, revealed during an interview on the Today show on Friday, March 4, that she’s taking a break from acting to focus on her company, Goop.
The actress told Matt Lauer during the segment that Goop is her “24/7 focus right now.” Us Weekly exclusively revealed back in 2013 that Paltrow was scaling back on films to focus on the company.
“We took some investment last year, so as soon as we had other people’s money, I realized I really better focus on this completely,” she explained. “I’ll return to acting probably, but probably not right now.” Paltrow launched Goop in 2008.
Paltrow’s lifestyle company, which just released a new line of skincare products retailing from $90 to $140, has been criticized year after year for being too pricey and pretentious.
“I think that people who are going to criticize — and I’m always only open to criticism and learning more — but people who are going criticize should have all of the empirical information,” Paltrow said, explaining that Goop actually offers “a range across all price points.”
Paltrow — who is mom of daughter Apple, 11, and son Moses, 9, with ex-husband Chris Martin — won the Oscar for best actress in 1999 for her performance in Shakespeare in Love, and was last seen in 2015’s Mortdecai. She wrapped filming Captain America: Civil War this past August.
