Homer Gere and Kaia Gerber acknowledged their parents’ past relationship the first time they met.
In a Tuesday, August 11, profile for Vogue, Gere, 26, recalled meeting Gerber, 24, for the first time with a few other cast members from The Shards at Ye Rustic Inn in Los Feliz.
“That’s Kaia’s spot. It’s, like, her chill I’m-gonna-go-have-a-beer-and-smoke-a-cig-outside spot. Twenty minutes into knowing each other, I was like, ‘Should we just acknowledge the fact that our parents were married?’ She was like, ‘Yeah. Cool.’ And that was it,” Gere recalled.
Years before the pair collaborated on the Ryan Murphy show, Homer’s father, Richard Gere, and Kaia’s mother, Cindy Crawford, had tied the knot. The twosome, who have a 17-year age gap, eloped in Las Vegas in 1991 after dating.
Kaia, for her part, has sung Homer’s praises while promoting the show based on Bret Easton Ellis’ horror novel of the same name.
“It was so nice, and honestly, he’s such a joy to work with and such a lovely person,” Kaia told Entertainment Tonight at the premiere in July. “He grew up East Coast, I grew up West Coast, but we’ve just gotten so close. I couldn’t have picked a better scene partner, honestly.”
More than a decade before Kaia and Homer costarred on the project, Cindy, 60, spoke out about her relationship with the Pretty Woman actor, 76, and what led up to the then-couple tying the knot.
“Richard and I had been dating for several years, and at one point, I was like, ‘Are we doing this or what?’” Cindy recalled in 2015 while promoting her book Becoming. “And he said, ‘Let’s go to Vegas tonight.’ It wasn’t the wedding I dreamed of. It was so last minute I wore this Armani suit. It was a nice Armani suit, but I didn’t dream of getting married in a navy blue suit. And the ring was made out of tinfoil because it was so last minute. But I did have Herb Ritts as my bridesmaid — and taking the pictures!”
Richard and Cindy separated in 1994, three years after they exchanged vows. The pair filed for divorce in 1995, citing irreconcilable differences.
Three years later, Cindy wed businessman and former model Rande Gerber. The couple went on to welcome son Presley and daughter Kaia in 1999 and 2001, respectively.
Richard, for his part, welcomed son Homer in 2000 with actress Carey Lowell. The pair tied the knot in 2002 before calling it quits in 2013. He later married Alejandra Silva in 2018. The couple share two sons, who were born in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
