Two decades of devotion! Hugh Jackman and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary today, Monday, April 11, which is a pretty remarkable feat.
When it comes to what makes their marriage so successful, Jackman, 47, has explained that meeting Furness, 60, pre-fame gave the couple a great opportunity to get to know one another without the distractions of showbiz.
“I’m kind of really grateful that I met her before anything kind of happened,” the actor said during a February 2016 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “Everything that’s happened in my career and on screen, offscreen, we’ve always done it together.”
Indeed, Jackman and Furness make quite a team. Together they have conquered Hollywood, traveled the world and adopted two children: son Oscar, 15, and daughter Ava, 10.
The adorable duo first met on the set of the Australian TV drama Corelli, which happened to be Jackman’s “first job.”
“She was the star and I had this major crush on her,” he told Ellen DeGeneres. “Everyone did. The whole crew had a crush on her and I was so embarrassed by that, I didn’t talk to her for about a week.”
Eventually, the Wolverine star mustered up the courage to ask Furness, who is 13 years his senior, out on a date. From the beginning of their relationship, Jackman knew that he wanted to marry the striking blonde beauty he met at just 26 years old.
“I decided, I won’t ask her to marry me for six months,” the Sydney native revealed in the October 2013 issue of Town & Country. “Then after four months I thought, ‘That’s the most ridiculous rule!'”
Jackman popped the question not long after and the rest is history. Watch Us Weekly’s video above to see the totally-in-love twosome’s sweetest moments.
