First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a series of good causes! Ian Somerhalder couldn’t be happier with his marriage to Nikki Reed. On Thursday, July 9, at the debut of We All Love Wildlife video series at the International Bird Rescue in San Pedro, Calif., the Vampire Diaries hunk, 36, gushed about his wife, 27, and their shared love of animals.
“The amount of compassion fueled by passion that she puts into the world in regards to animals is second to none,” he said of the Twilight alum. “I mean she changes her house into a rescue and a foster home for so many animals and has taken so much time and energy and money of her own with her family, particularly her mom, to foster animals and make sure that they are safe. That in and of itself is really something that solidifies us as a unit that really is an amazing thing to wake up to every morning.”
Somerhalder and Reed have longterm plans to make their charity work a permanent part of their lives together.
“My goal and Nikki’s goal in life is literally — my goal in particular — is to build four profit entities that will literally feed our necessary non-prof initiatives till the end of time,” Somerhalder told Us of the newlyweds’ plans. “We definitely share that passion together in a very huge way.”
Calling married life “unbelievable,” Somerhalder joked about his wedding ring while helping some of the workers at the event release birds into the wild. When handling a pelican, he quipped, “This bird better not steal my new wedding ring! I actually haven’t taken mine off since April.”
Somerhalder Instagrammed a video of himself releasing the birds into the wild, writing, “Such an amazing day-Just released these beautiful rehabilitated birds into the wild thanks to international bird rescue. This is why #ILoveWildlife #HowDoYouLoveWildLife #ad Check out this video- it was an incredible and emotional moment for me.”
The pair tied the knot on April 26 in a private ceremony after nine months of dating.
