Influencer Michael Selwood has been found dead hours after he was reported missing. He was 35.
A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Police told People in a statement published on Wednesday, July 22, that the British content creator was found dead around 5 p.m. local time on Sunday, July 19.
“Michael’s family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this difficult time,” the spokesperson shared. “We would like to thank everyone who shared and supported this appeal.”
One day before he was found dead, authorities had shared a public appeal that Selwood had last been seen on Saturday July 18, around 8 p.m. local time in Dukinfield, England, per the outlet.
Selwood had more than 22,000 followers on TikTok, where he uploaded his final post on July 14. The video, which was also posted to Instagram, has since received comments from fans paying tribute to the influencer.
“Sleep easy mikey 🥺🙏,” one user wrote in the comments section, while another added, “R.i.P mikey love 🙏🪽.”
One month before his death, Selwood posted a statement apologizing to fans for allegedly disappearing.
“I’m really sorry I have disappeared on you all. Just know this is needed mental health too a big dip [sic]. I [can’t] even explain why. Other times there is a reason, this time I [can’t] seem to find that reason. Just know I will be back with you all when I’m back on top,” he wrote via TikTok in June, adding in the caption, “Just know I’m sorry.”
Selwood was gearing up to fight Tommy Hench on August 22, in a showdown called “Rise of the Pheonix [sic].”
“Good morning everybody. How are we? Listen, 22nd of August is our next fight. Listen, we are locked in to camp. Getting ready to go on my run. But thought I’d do a little post for you all just to give a little promotion. Look, this is who we are fighting,” Selwood said in a July 13 Facebook video, as a photo of Hench displayed on the screen.
He continued, “As you can see, probably one of the biggest names we can fight, yeah? Listen, we can’t take it away from this man. This man has a knockout record and everybody wants to see me get knocked out. But listen, I’m working hard. We ain’t going to let that happen. I know a lot of people want to see [that], but we ain’t letting that happen.”
