The wellness retreats travelers are flocking to right now are not gentle spa weekends. They are structured, results-driven programs with strict schedules, plant-based meals and no TVs — and the most talked-about of them, The Ranch Malibu, has quietly become Hollywood’s go-to reset destination. With a hard cap of 25 guests a week and nightly rates topping $1,500, it is part fitness boot camp, part luxury escape and entirely sold on the idea that one disciplined week can change your year.
The Ranch has been named a top wellness destination by Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure, and its A-list following keeps growing.
What Is The Ranch Malibu?
Founded in 2010 and set on 200 acres in the Santa Monica Mountains, The Ranch runs a highly structured fitness and wellness program built around fitness, nourishment and restoration. Capacity is capped at 25 guests each week, which is part of the appeal: small group, fixed schedule, no distractions.
The signature stay is a six-, seven- or eight-night program, with select three- and four-night options. Guests sleep in one of 21 private cottages with king or queen beds. There are no TVs, and Wi-Fi is limited to the cottages — a deliberate push to unplug. Large groups can book The Ranch Group + Buyout for exclusive use of the property, staff and program.
How the Daily Program Works
Days at The Ranch are tightly scheduled. Each morning, guests head out for a two- or four-hour group hike. After returning, there is built-in rest, followed by an afternoon of strength training, restorative yoga or meditation and a daily massage.
Meals and snacks are plant-based, with ingredients pulled from The Ranch’s own organic gardens and nearby farms. Portions are low-calorie and geared toward weight loss. Guests also get a Bod Pod body composition analysis, evening nutrition and wellness talks, cooking demonstrations and a garden tour.
Amenities include an infrared sauna, an outdoor heated pool, a jacuzzi and cold plunges. Personal laundry is washed and folded daily, and return airport transfers to LAX are available Saturday and Sunday mornings at 10 a.m.
Optional add-ons, for an extra fee, include IV therapy, colon hydrotherapy, cholesterol testing, acupuncture, cupping, chiropractic care, energy healing, somatic energy release therapy and reiki.
What It Costs
Rates are all-inclusive, covering food, accommodations and the base program, with small add-ons priced separately. Pricing varies by season, room type, length of stay and how far in advance guests book. Current rates run approximately $1,500 to $1,700 a night for single occupancy.
Why Celebrities Keep Coming Back
The no-nonsense approach is exactly what has earned The Ranch its Hollywood following. Rebel Wilson said she lost eight pounds over a long weekend there. Connie Britton, Lea Michele and Mandy Moore have all checked in too.
For stars used to control and customization, The Ranch offers the opposite: a fixed schedule, a strict menu and a phone-free week in the mountains. That is precisely why it has become Hollywood’s favorite reset — and a benchmark for the broader category of high-end wellness retreats USA travelers are willing to pay premium prices for.
