Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith have been plagued by divorce rumors — and talk of an open marriage — for years. Despite repeated reports that their 15-year union is on the rocks, the former HawthoRNe star tells the July issue of Redbook that their bond is stronger than ever.
"I have been affected by gossip and I know people who have been, too. I've seen marriages destroyed by gossip. It is cruel," Pinkett Smith, 41, says. "At the end of the day, all that matters is: Do you love what you see when you look in the mirror? That is it, baby."
The two trust each other implicitly, according to Pinkett Smith. Moreover, they take their wedding vows seriously. "What is the thing that Will could do to make me not love him? That would make me abandon him? I can't think of one. I'm sorry," the actress says. "Except if he did something bad to the kids — now we've got a problem."
(The A-listers are parents to son Jaden, 14, and daughter Willow, 12. Smith, 44, also has a son, Trey, 20, from his previous marriage to Sheree Zampino. Pinkett Smith poses with her daughter and mom Adrienne in the accompanying photo shoot.)
The secret to their happy marriage, Pinkett Smith says, is finding special moments in their everyday lives. "We tend to find magic in the mundane," the actress tells Redbook. "Picking Willow up from her girlfriend's house at 9:30 p.m., and enjoying that ride together, then stopping at 7-Eleven to get some ice cream as a family."
