So much chemistry! Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong’o hit the stage at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium together on Sunday, Jan. 25 for the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards and inspired a collective swoon from social media users.
Last year’s Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor Oscar winners attended the 21st Annual SAG Awards to present the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie. As they announced the nominees, a spark was visible between Leto and Nyong’o, who smiled at one another and embraced on the awards show stage.
The 12 Years a Slave actress, 31, announced that Mark Ruffalo won the category for his work in The Normal Heart, beating out Adrien Brody for Houdini, Benedict Cumberbatch for Sherlock, Richard Jenkins for Olive Kitteridge, and Billy Bob Thornton for Fargo. As Ruffalo was unable to attend the show, Leto, 43, edged closer to Nyong’o to accept the award on Ruffalo’s behalf.
“Mark Ruffalo couldn’t be here this evening, so Lupita and I are quite happy to take this award on his behalf,” Leto said as he put his arm around Nyong’o’s waist and pulled her close to him. “[We’ll] saw it in half and keep it forever.”
From the looks of Leto’s moves, Ruffalo’s award wasn’t the only thing he wanted to keep forever. During the star-studded show and the ensuing afterparties, he was caught gazing at Nyong’o and catching up with her off stage.
This isn’t the first time that Nyong’o and Leto have heated things up at an awards show. At the MTV Movie Awards in April 2014, the two stars took the stage together just weeks after they both won Oscars at the 2014 Academy Awards.
The two celebrated actors also spent time together at Paris Fashion Week, and slyly dodged rumors that they were dating. While Us Weekly exclusively broke the news last March that Nyong’o is dating rapper K’naan, fans are still holding out hope for a Leto-Nyong’o coupling, and took to Twitter on Sunday evening after the SAGs to express their love for the two.
