If you’ve ever spent three weeks arguing with your spouse over something utterly trivial while your kids weigh in with their own strong opinions, congratulations — you’re living the Jason and Kylie Kelce experience.
The retired Eagles center and his wife recently adopted a German Shepherd puppy from the Pennsylvania SPCA, and what should have been a simple “welcome home” moment has turned into a weeks-long naming debate.
For Kylie, it’s déjà vu — the same back-and-forth she’s come to expect whenever the Kelces try to agree on a name, whether it be for a baby or a dog.
Kylie Kelce Introduces the World to New Puppy
Kylie first announced the puppy on the March 31 FAFO episode, saying she planned to call her “Bernadette.” Simple enough, right? Not in the Kelce house.
By the April 2 episode of her Not Gonna Lie podcast, Kylie said the dog’s name was “Matilda” — though she sounded unsure. She also revealed that “Broomhilda” had been a serious contender, courtesy of her husband.
“And I’m not saying that to be funny. Jason deadass thought we were going to name a dog Broomhilda,” she said at the time.
If you know a Jason in your life — the dad who floats wildly confident suggestions during family decisions — you already understand the energy here. Kylie clearly does too, because she used the moment to put her husband’s naming instincts on full blast.
“I want people to remember that the next time they come at me about how we named our four children, because do you see what I’m working with?” she joked.
Jason Kelce Didn’t Stop at Trying to Name the Puppy Broomhilda
By the April 8 episode of the New Heights podcast, which Jason cohosts with his brother, Travis Kelce, the name had shifted yet again.
“This is Frida, or as everyone is calling Freddie. Everyone is calling her Freddie around the house,” he said of the puppy.
Jason confirmed the dog’s name — for now — is Frida, with Freddie as the household nickname. But naturally, he wasn’t done campaigning.
“I’m calling her Gunda,” Jason joked in a German accent. “Gunda. Because I like that name better. ‘Gunda, Gunda, sit! Gunda, sit!’”
When Travis asked why he was talking in a different accent, Jason’s reasoning was airtight: “She’s German.”
Jason and Kylie Kelce’s Daughter Isn’t on Board With the Puppy Name
The best part of the whole exchange? The couple’s 6-year-old daughter, Wyatt, made a brief appearance during the episode and shut her dad down immediately.
“It’s not Gunda — it’s Freddie!” she said.
Nothing humbles a former NFL lineman faster than his first grader correcting him on camera.
Jason and Kylie share four daughters: Wyatt, 6, Elliotte, 5, Bennett, 3, and Finn, 1. And if Wyatt’s already overruling dad on the podcast, the teenage years are going to be something.
Jason and Kylie Kelce Are Ready for Fresh Start After Previous Dog’s Death
The adoption carries some emotional weight for the family. In March 2025, Kylie took to Instagram to share that her beloved Irish Wolfhound named Baloo had passed away.
“We were lucky enough to have 7 years with the goofiest, sweetest, most lovable, and tolerant dog I’ve ever met. He wanted nothing more than carbs and pets,” she wrote in the post.
Baloo’s death came one year after the Kelce family mourned the loss of their other Irish Wolfhound named Winnie.
So while the name debate is genuinely hilarious, there’s something sweet about this chaotic family opening their home to a new pup. Whether she ends up as Frida, Freddie or — against all odds — Gunda, this German Shepherd has landed in a household full of love, laughter and very strong opinions.
