She never saw it coming — well, sort of. Teen Mom 2’s Jenelle Evans got more than she bargained for while on vacation in St. Thomas on Tuesday, Jan. 6. The reality star, 23, started off the evening going to dinner with her longtime boyfriend Nathan Griffith and some friends.
“We went to a fancy restaurant, and we were just going out to have a nice dinner,” Evans told MTV.
Once they finished eating, Griffith decided to make an announcement.
“[Nathan] just tapped his glass, stood up in front of the whole restaurant, and made this big speech,” the mother of two explained. “How he loves me, he wants to be with me for the rest of his life. And he’s really happy. And then he got down on one knee and proposed in front of everyone.”
The couple, who welcomed son Kaiser in June, have been together for close to two years now. Evans also had son Jace, 5, with ex Andrew Lewis, and her mother Barbara Evans serves as his guardian.
“I was completely shocked,” Evans said of the proposal. “I think I had an idea he would probably propose to me here, but I didn’t know when during the week he was gonna do it. And I didn’t know what was gonna happen or anything. So it was like expected, but unexpected.”
As for the ring, which Evans showed off on her Instagram page, Griffith picked it out himself.
“He did a perfect job,” she said. “We went looking for a month, and then he went looking for four months, because he was so indecisive. He showed all of his friends. He showed everyone the ring, but he would never let me see it.”

Evans was previously engaged to ex Gary Head in 2012, later filing assault charges against him. After they split, the MTV star married Courtland Rogers in December 2012, leaving him after 26 days of marriage. In April 2013 the pair were arrested on drug possession and assault charges together.
