Jennifer Lawrence Apologizes For Story About Scratching Her Butt on Sacred Rocks: ‘I Meant Absolutely No Disrespect’

Jennifer Lawrence apologized after telling a story about scratching her butt on rocks that are considered sacred in Hawaii via a post to Facebook on Friday, December 9, in response to backlash from fans who slammed the star as culturally insensitive.

“From Jen, to the internet,” the Passengers actress began the post. “I meant absolutely no disrespect to the Hawaiian people. I really thought that I was being self deprecating about the fact that I was “the curse,” but I understand the way it was perceived was not funny and I apologize if I offended anyone.”

“You were not supposed to sit on them because you weren’t supposed to expose your genitalia to them,” she explained on the show, adding that she was permitted to perch on the boulders because she was in a wet suit. The combination of rock and wet suit led to some “butt itchin’” that then led to one rock coming loose and almost killing the sound guy, she said.
