File this under LOL! Jimmy Fallon hilariously reimagined Us Weekly’s “25 Things” with Ted Cruz — which appears in our latest issue — during his opening monologue for The Tonight Show on Thursday, March 17.
The late-night host, who kicked off the show by wishing everyone a happy Saint Patrick’s Day, first threw a few jabs at GOP front-runner Donald Trump, who recently said that he is his own best adviser because he has a “good brain” and “says a lot of things.”
Then Fallon, 41, turned his attention to Cruz, 45, Us Weekly’s current “25 Things You Don’t Know About Me” subject. (As it happens, former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney voted for Cruz on Friday, March 18.)
“Did you see this? Ted Cruz was just featured in Us Weekly’s ’25 Things You Don’t Know About Me’ column, and on the list he revealed that he was once bitten by an octopus at the beach and got terribly ill. Then the octopus said ‘Yeah, it took me a while to recover too. Ugh,’” Fallon began. “In the article, Cruz also revealed that in high school, he was in The Sound of Music twice and that he can quote every line in the Princess Bride. There’s a whole bunch of interesting things about Cruz in the article.”
The funnyman then lampooned Cruz, bringing up faux items on the presidential hopeful’s list of lesser-known personal facts.
“As a child, his family moved six different times, but he kept finding them,” Fallon listed, to laughs and applause from the audience.
“In high school, he went to prom with the lunch lady,” the host continued. “At the end of the night, she said she just wanted to be friends.”
In Us Weekly’s actual “25 Things” list, Cruz told Us that he wears cowboy boots almost every day, loves cheese and hates avocados.
