Josh Duhamel is happy where he currently stands with ex-wife Fergie.
“We have a really good relationship, thankfully. She’s a good person, she’s a good mom,” the Ransom Canyon actor, 53, said during an appearance on the Thursday, April 23, episode of the “Tomi Lahren Is Fearless” podcast. “Thankfully she and my wife [Audra Mari] have a good relationship.”
Duhamel was married to Fergie from 2009 to 2019. The exes share son Axl, 12, whom they welcomed in August 2013. Three years after his split from Fergie, Duhamel wed Mari, 2022. The couple share a son, Shepherd, and announced earlier this year they are expecting baby No. 2.
“It’s as good as it could possibly be,” Duhamel said of his dynamic with Fergie. “Thankfully. It’s very civil. There’s not any sort of hostility between anybody. So that’s really all I care about and I’d like to keep it that way.”
During his marriage to Fergie, the singer was at the height of fame as she was a beloved member of The Black Eyed Peas. Fergie was also a successful solo artist while in the group.
“I think it was a lot to adjust to. Because at the time she was a giant star,” Duhamel said on Thursday. “Everywhere they’d go in the world they sold out stadiums … I adjusted to it though. It took a little time.”
Fergie officially left the Black Eyed Peas in 2018 to focus on her family. At the time, she and Duhamel had already separated. (J. Rey Soul ultimately joined the Black Eyed Peas as the group’s vocalist that same year.)
After Duhamel and Fergie’s divorce was finalized in 2019, the pair were awarded 50-50 joint custody of Axl. In an October 2023 interview with In Depth With Graham Bensinger, Duhamel opened up about how he and his ex-wife navigated their new coparenting dynamic.
“We both had parents who got divorced who didn’t get along so great and didn’t want to do the same thing to our kid. [We] had to be a positive example for Axl,” he recalled. “We just both wanted the same thing — and that is to create an easy place for him that isn’t awkward or uncomfortable or pressure-filled.”
Duhamel added that his split from Fergie wasn’t contentious.
“There wasn’t anything wrong with it. We had a great time,” he explained. “I think we kind of outgrew each other and had very different interests. The older I got the more I wanted to come back here [to North Dakota]. I’ve got no hard feelings for it. I’m very lucky that she’s a kind human.”
