Joy-Anna Duggar and her husband, Austin Forsyth, faced certain challenges getting married on TV.

“Although, I love having the video to look back on, I feel like it did add a whole other layer because there were so many things that didn’t go the exact way that I wanted to,” Joy-Anna, 28, told sister Jinger Duggar on the Wednesday, September 30, episode of their “Call Your Sister” podcast. “I felt like I was having my wedding day for their production almost sometimes [more] than about us.”

Joy-Anna and Austin, 32, tied the knot in May 2017, which was filmed for a special episode of TLC’s Counting On. The experience, ultimately, sparked a conflict with the groom.

“Austin ended up having to have a conversation with one of the guys that had come in. He wasn’t normally on our film crew. He came in ‘cause it was a big day,” Joy-Anna recalled on Wednesday’s episode. “They had to have multiple people overseeing the different crews, so he was a guy that hadn’t been with us but a couple times.”

The content creator added, alleging about the unidentified crew member, “He was getting frustrated with Austin for taking his microphone off when he would talk to me, and Austin was like, ‘Dude, this day is not about you. It’s not about the cameras. I’m getting married today. This is about me and Joy.’”

Joy-Anna further stressed that Austin’s comment wasn’t meant to be “disrespectful or anything.”

“It was just like, ‘This is a reminder, it’s our wedding day,’” she noted. “This is our real life, this is not a production.”

While Joy-Anna acknowledged that the crew member was understandably “frustrated” trying to do his job, it shouldn’t have come at a cost to her “real life.” The staffer eventually apologized to Austin after production wrapped.

“He was really sweet and he came back later. He’s like, ‘I’m sorry, man. I was in the moment, and I was trying to get my job done and you’re right. It’s your wedding day,’” Joy-Anna said. “He was very kind about it, but there were definitely things like that throughout the day, like, ‘Hey, you got to hurry and rush and go do this interview.’ I’m like, ‘I just want to enjoy doing my makeup with my sister for the last time before I get married.’”

Joy-Anna and Austin have since expanded their family, welcoming sons Gideon, 8, and Gunner, 3, as well as daughter Evelyn, 5. The couple, who previously suffered a miscarriage in 2019, are currently expecting another baby.
