Justin Bieber broke down after performing his new hit single, “What Do You Mean?” at the 2015 VMAs on Sunday, Aug. 30. The 22-year-old pop star kicked off his performance with his Skrillex-Diplo collab “Where Are U Now,” before nailing his first-ever performance of “What Do You Mean?” while clad in a black T-shirt and black baseball cap.
After keeping the crowd on their toes and being lifted off the stage in a harness, an emotional Bieber covered his face with his hands and broke down crying.
Host Miley Cyrus reappeared on stage and seemed taken aback by Bieber’s passionate moment. As the crowd applauded, she was left attempting to make light of the situation by telling Bieber to “call her.”
While some fans felt for the Biebs, others were at a loss as to why the “Boyfriend” singer was in tears.
“Justin Bieber fake crying at the end of his performance made me so uncomfortable,” one viewer tweeted, while another joked: “Bieber crying at the end cause he spent hours on his new hair and nobody appreciated it except Miley.”
