Kaia Gerber is reflecting on the grieving process after brother Presley Gerber’s death.

Kaia, 25, shared a photo of a stack of books to her Instagram on Sunday, November 8, alongside a quote from Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking.

“Grief, when it comes, is nothing we expect it to be. Grief has no distance. Grief comes in waves, paroxysms, sudden apprehensions that weaken the knees and blind the eyes and obliterate the dailiness of life,” the quote read.

The post was uploaded by Kaia and the Library Science official Instagram account, a joint book program established by the actress and Alyssa Reeder. The upload comes less than two months after news broke that Presley died at age 27.

In September, the Santa Monica Police Department told Us officers responded to a call regarding a possible overdose at the sober living facility Resolutions Living. Authorities found an unresponsive adult male at the scene. (Presley had previously been candid about his mental health and addiction struggles.)

“The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has identified the individual as Presley Gerber, 27,” authorities said in a statement. “SMPD detectives are investigating the death as a suspected overdose. At this time, there is no indication of foul play. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.”

One day later, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed that Presley’s body was “ready for release.” Presley’s cause of death was “deferred,” per records viewed by Us, and his body was later cremated.

His death has since resulted in an investigation into the sober living facility after a reform advocate with no relation to Presley reportedly filed a formal complaint. Page Six later reported in October that the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) determined there wasn’t enough evidence to substantiate any wrongdoing on the part of the Resolutions Living treatment facility.

Presley, the son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, was honored in a statement by his family in October.

“We are beyond heartbroken to lose our beloved son and brother. We feel so blessed to have had Presley in our lives for 27 years,” the family wrote at the time. “He is a sweet, beautiful soul who loved and is loved, now and forever.”
